You may hear many people talking about the various generations in addition to the ups and downs that come with each one. But what do they all mean? It looks as though officials have now changed the guidelines and you could soon fall within a different generation entirely.
The Pew Research Center has been conducting extensive research for years in a bid to finally answer who belongs in what generation. There have been many debates over the years, and some people have found themselves being pushed from pillar to post as they try and discover where they belong. Could they have really answered the long-time question of where these generations begin and end?
The Silent Generation and Baby Boomers
The Silent Generation apparently applies to those born between 1928 and 1945, while the Baby Boomers are those born between 1946 and 1964. These two generations are incredibly interesting thanks to all the significant events that happened in history during this time. As well as living through World War II, many in these generations will have also witnessed the Great Depression, John F. Kennedy’s assassination, and the world organizing who owns what country. All these events have shaped these generations into the parents and grandparents of today.
According to Pew, these folk are born between 1965 and 1980. Before, it was thought there was a Xennial micro-generation that existed between 1977 and 1983, but according to this new report, this has been eradicated. In fact, it is technology that has defined the cut-off point for this generation. It is thought that Generation X exists thanks to the birth of computers. Pew describes that people in X have lived through the revolution of computers and seen them turn into everything they now are in the modern day.
One of the most talked about generations of our time. Well, according to Pew Millennials are officially born between 1981 and 1996. Yup, these individuals are described as remembering and comprehending the 9/11 attacks, in addition to living through the 2008 recession. Additionally, Millennials are also said to remember rotary phones, touch-tones, and landlines before their demise thanks to the smartphone. To top it off, this generation is said to have witnessed the rise of the internet as well as continually battling the recession affects when it comes to starting a career.
Finally, we have the current young generation: the Post-Millennials. Although it may not be the most imaginative of all the names, this generation is said to be the ones that were still 10 or under when the iPhone was invented. Thanks to all the advances in technology, it looks as though the Post-Millennials will be the ones to see some incredible breakthroughs as well as get a headstart in their careers compared to the previous generation.
While these may not be definitive guidelines, this study has given some clarity to who we are in addition to how generations can be divided by many world events and breakthroughs. Perhaps we have been living in the wrong generation all this time? It could explain a lot!
