For a lot of us, the biggest perk we get in a job is getting a salary every month, a few paid holiday days and the occasional cake on someone’s birthday. That’s pretty standard in the world of work, but some employers really offer something extra for their employees. Here are some of the coolest!
Bring your dog to work
If you are a pet owner, you will know the heartbreak in their eyes as you leave them at home to go to work. Thankfully, some workplaces will allow you to bring your pampered pooch to work, provided that it is okay by their fellow colleagues. Dogs are shown to be great for morale and relaxation, so perhaps this will become even more popular in the next few years.
Free holidays
This is the absolute dream! Airbnb offers their American workers a yearly allowance of up to $2,000 to stay in any Airbnb properly around the world. This perk is part of the reason that they were voted as the best company to work for, by Glassdoor in 2016. If you work for TransferWise, you get an all-expenses-paid company holiday annually!
Unlimited holiday leave
While most of us are calculating carefully when is best to take our vacation days in order to make the most of them (take four days off over a holiday weekend and get over a week off!), some companies provide unlimited holiday leave for their employees. Virgin Management and Netflix are two such companies, with Netflix stating,”Our vacation policy is: take vacation. We don’t have any rules or forms around how many weeks per year.” Think of all the binge-watching you could get done! Visualsoft also offers unlimited holiday time, as well as unmonitored flexitime, to allow their staff to take time off as and when they need it.
Free food
The lucky workers at Jive Software get a whole load of free food and drink, including coffee, soft drinks and even beer on tap! Staff can also enjoy themed days such as Bacon Thursday or Hot Food Friday. Google employees, among other perks, get free food from a range of cuisines while they are at work. No cheap canteen food here!
These perks are pretty amazing, and it’s no wonder that jobs at these companies are so highly sought after. That said, the level of work is pretty high and demanding, so it’s important that the perks outweigh the stress levels of the job! So next time a position comes up at one of these companies, perhaps it would be worth applying for the perks alone!
