[post_page_title]What was before barcodes?[/post_page_title]
Before there were barcodes, going to the grocery store was such a hassle. The cashier had a list of how much everything cost, and the cashier would have to physically put the amounts into a register. And every time a new amount was added, the register would ding.
It was only after all the amounts were added that you got the receipt. In fact, the phrase “to ring up” comes from the dinging sound made by the register every time a new value was inputted!
