Walmart was soon on the case, and they worked to discover what had really happened. In the meantime however, they issued a public statement saying that shoppers at the Clinton branch of their retail store weren’t in danger of paying for items they hadn’t purchased.
Walmart’s head office wanted to quickly debunk any rumors that were being spread before the news got around and it was too late. Sadly for the company, the internet is a fast-acting place, and the story spread like wildfire.
