Take a peek inside Oprah Winfrey’s lavish $90 million Montecito mansion

The legendary Oprah

Oprah is definitely one of the biggest names in television – and with a net worth of roughly $2.7 billion, the iconic host certainly lives a life of luxury.

The legendary Oprah

Known for having a tough childhood, she hasn’t always been so fortunate, but she has pushed through it all and is now one of the richest people in the world. With her incredible wealth, she has been able to purchase some wildly impressive homes…like her glamorous mansion in Montecito, California worth $90 million. Care to have a look?

Picture perfect

We know that beauty is not only about what’s on the outside, but we figure we might as well give you a taste before we go on a tour of the inside of Oprah’s house.

Picture perfect

This amazing mansion was originally built all the way back in 1912, so it’s clear that it’s aged very well over time. This 23,000 square foot palace has six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a wine cellar, a theater, a wine cellar, a gourmet kitchen, a swimming pool, and much, much more…

Gracious garden

Is there anything more beautiful than a peek into the garden of Oprah Winfrey?

Gracious garden

Indeed, the flowers and greenery in front of us make us wonder how she could ever bear to leave this place for any film studio on earth. Of course, it was that same film studio that helped her buy all of this stuff, so perhaps she should. What you are looking at is an assortment of dahlias, daffodils, lilies, roses, and many more exotic flowers.

A delicious dip

You didn’t think we would leave out the pool, did you? You can’t really be a house-owning celebrity in Hollywood and not have a pool.

A delicious dip

We’re not being shallow, we’re just calling it like we see it. That being said, we doubt you’ve ever seen a pool like this one. The shape is inspired, the coloring is divine, and the palm trees in the background make for a heavenly landscape. The sun is shining, and we can’t help but ask: Is it summertime yet?

The Koi Pond

When you’re talking about a star on the level of Oprah Winfrey, she can practically purchase anything she wants.

The Koi Pond

She had the pool covered, but a Koi Pond was in order as well. Indeed, this picture makes it seem as if going to her house in akin to going on a vacation at a safari somewhere. There are water lilies floating gracefully on the far left side of this picture, and we can’t help but get overwhelmed by the colors.

Ancient sculptures

Here’s something you may not have expected. This sculpture resides on the grounds of Oprah’s mansion, and it was made by Francisco Zuniga, a Mexican painter who was actually born in Costa Rica.

Ancient sculptures

He called it Grupo De Quarto Mujeres De Pie, and it symbolizes four peasant women who are in the four crucial stages of life. These stages are adolescence, pregnancy, middle age, and old age. Can you spot which woman applies to which stage?

Hallelujah Lane

Here is yet another marvelous statue that sits in the garden of Oprah’s giant backyard, and unlike the one we just looked at, there is a lot more of an “obvious” beauty here.

Hallelujah Lane

There is an almost Roman quality to this sculpture, and its decadent beauty, combined with teh hydrangea bushes surrounding it, is called Hallelujah Lane. In fact, Oprah has it created as a homage to her beloved grandmother, and those roses really bring it out.

The reading room

This is Oprah’s “Reading Room,” in case you weren’t sure that such a thing existed in this world.

The reading room

Indeed, we all know that reading is one of her favorite pastimes, so it stands to reason that she would have a room in her house dedicated solely to reading. As you can see, she has her books arranged so perfectly that we wonder if she did it herself. The bigger question is, did she read all of those books?

Don’t touch the books

If you thought Oprah’s reading room looked organized before, it’s nothing compared to how it looks from this angle. By the way, remember when we were discussing if Oprah read all of those books?

Don’t touch the books

Well, apparently she doesn’t want anyone touching the books! There are simply there for show. It’s unclear whether or not this restriction is including her, but either way we commend her for the way she runs a tight ship in her house.

Feeding time

Adjacent to her kitchen is the dining room, and we are immediately struck by the maple coloring of the table, and especially by how shiny and impressive it looks.

Feeding time

The table fits ten, and it has two featured candelabras that offset the table in a distinct way. You don’t realize it at first, but the rug underneath this table compliments it very subtly, for it has a certain faded quality to it, and knowing Oprah – this was probably on purpose.

Bathroom importance

It’s not very often we see a picture of a bathroom that makes us exciting about having to do our business.

Bathroom importance

This is indeed one of the nicest bathrooms we’ve ever seen, and Oprah actually has an interesting story about bathrooms in her early life. She said that her family used to have to share a single tub when she was younger – and therefore it makes sense that she’d want to shell out some serious dough for a beautiful bathroom.

Closet space

It may be a stereotype that women like to have big closets, but when it comes to Oprah, her closet takes every cake that’s ever been baked.

Closet space

This closet is practically a room unto itself, and we’re betting a family of four could sleep in here if they wanted. She looks like she has at least 50 pairs of shoes, and that’s just what’s visible. We’re also impressed by how organized everything is. Oprah doesn’t quit no matter where she is.

Fine foyer

Here is the prime entrance hall of Oprah’s house, but she actually labels it her foyer, if you want to get fancy.

Fine foyer

From the decorative banister that flanks the staircase in a complementary way, to the modest painting perched nicely on that canary yellow wall, the entire image provides a very unique and vivid experience. We also love all of the personal photos on the tabletops – she may be a celebrity, but Oprah has loved ones just like the rest of us.

Quaint kitchen

And now it’s time to take a step into the kitchen of Oprah Winfrey. It doesn’t show us too much, and you might even think for a second that it’s not that impressive.

Quaint kitchen

But once you take a second to notice the details of the walls and the stone fixtures, you’ll notice that this is no ordinary kitchen. Case in point, the pizza oven on the left, and the kitchen fireplace on the right. And then of course there’s that calming artwork on the wall.

A bit different

If we’re being real with ourselves, this room totally sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of the rooms in Oprah’s house.

A bit different

Don’t get us wrong, the room looks quite nice, but it seems a bit casual in the context of the rest of the house. The plaid design totally seems out of place, and Oprah herself said that she wants to redo this room. As you can see, she is always looking to perfect things she believes can be fixed.

Comfy and cozy

Unlike the last living room we looked at, this one looks a bit more “in place” with the rest of the rooms.

Comfy and cozy

It has a more traditional yet modern feel to it, and we could totally see ourselves enjoying a nice nap on that green couch. As you can see, there isn’t a television in this room either, which tells us that Oprah really doesn’t to watch television at home. Perhaps she gets enough of television while on set.

The tea house

When you have as much money as Oprah does, you can make purchases that most people would never even dream of making.

The tea house

For instance, how many people in the world have their very own tea house? Yes that’s right, you are looking at a tea house, and just looking at this structure is making us thirsty for the drink. The building used to be a place where people cut flowers, but Oprah felt that drinking tea was more appropriate for it.

A place to relax

We’ve been talking so much about this tea house that we honestly were so curious to find out what the inside looked like.

A place to relax

As you can see, it has a lovely quality to it, and Oprah actually says that she comes here to read, meditate, and of course – enjoy a cup of tea. There is no television or any other digital device in the tea house, adding to it’s ethereal and serene atmosphere. It seems like the optimal place to block out all the noise when things get crazy.

Guest house

Of course any good mansion has to have a nice guest house for when visitors come to stay. Oprah’s home is no different. She has a stylish little area for anyone to bunk if they wish.

Guest house

There is definitely a floral theme going on and it’s a very elegant part of the home, very old-fashioned. There’s even a fireplace to light if it starts to get a bit chilly outside. A little doubtful in California, but nice nonetheless. Needless to say, we’d love to be one of her guests.

Adding sections

As time has gone on, Oprah has not sat quietly in regards to the evolution of her house.

Adding sections

She has had a number of things added over the years, and in this picture you can get a little glimpse into something she added. She spent around $28.85 million to add a completely different region to her house, and it includes a fruit orchard, an equestrian ring, horse stables and more. Funny, we never got the impression that Oprah likes horses.

Barn and stall

Every house needs a barn and horse stall, right? Well, maybe not. But if you’re Oprah, and you’ve got the financial capabilities of buying stuff like that, then by all means go to town with it.

Barn and stall

Like we already mentioned, we had no idea that Oprah was such a fan of horses, but hey, maybe she wants her horse-loving guests to feel welcome when they come over. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s been a gracious host.

Further vantage point

We’ve shown you many of the nooks and crannies of Oprah’s house, and we also gave you a pretty solid look at it from the outside as well.

Further vantage point

But now it’s for us to zoom out a little bit more and appreciate the her mansion from even further out. The crazy thing is is that even from this far out, it still doesn’t even come close to covering her entire estate. It is simply so large, and there are so many treats along the way.

Orcas Island pad

Here’s a little secret, in case you didn’t know this already. Oprah owns more than one house.

Orcas Island pad

In fact, she owns quite a bunch. Up until now, we’ve only shown you pictures from one of them – the $90 million one in Montecito. But now we feel you’ve heard a look at some more goodies she has to offer. For instance, the house in this picture is a recent purchase of hers, an $8 million oad in the Orcas Island.

Woodworking wonder

Indeed, this Orcas Island house of hers has a lot of things going for it, from a guest cottage, woodworking studio, a gym, and yet another Tea House (boy, she really does love those).

Woodworking wonder

But even beyond all of that, just looking at the interior of this place is enough to show us just how beautiful it is. It looks like a cabin that was welded by angels, and we would choose to live here forever if we could. Wouldn’t you agree?

Maui wowi

When Oprah feels like getting outta town and relaxing a bit, she can head to Hawaii and spend some time in her Maui home.

Maui wowi

The gorgeous house is settled on the hills of Mount Haleakala and has a porch that wraps around the entire building, overlooking the ocean waters. It certainly looks like the perfect place to get away and have a peaceful vacation away from the daily stresses that the industry can bring on.

Charming Chicago

Some say that Chi-Town is the best city in the world – most of those people are from there, but still – and clearly Oprah is all about that big city life from time to time.

Charming Chicago

She used to have an apartment in Chicago, which she lived in while she was filming the Oprah Winfrey Show. She did, however sell it, but the Water Tower Place will always be a part of her story. Perhaps she decided Illinois winters were just too much to handle.

Colorful Colorado

Oprah seems to just love buying some of the most beautiful homes in some picturesque locations because in 2014, she was at it again. This time, her destination of choice was Telluride Colorado and, wow, was it a good decision on her part.

Colorful Colorado

This gorgeous house fits in perfectly with the mountains and woods surrounding it. This seems like the perfect place to cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate and a fire on a frosty winter evening.

Symbolic trees

While Oprah’s houses may just seem like they’re beautiful and nothing more – because, well, they are beautiful – she actually put a lot of thought into them. For instance, at her Montecito house, she actually used biblical symbolism in a rather beautiful way.

Symbolic trees

She calls her home the Promised Land and she has a grove of tress, 12 to be exact. Winfrey says that each tree is meant to represent one of the 12 apostles from the Bible.

Gardening girl

Something that shows how humble Oprah is can be found in her Montecito land. She has a DIY garden! That’s right, this billionaire, who could clearly afford to either go to a farmer’s market or hire someone to do her gardening for her, chooses to do it all herself.

Gardening girl

Friends of the avid gardener have just become used to receiving baskets full of delicious fresh produce from her. She has all kinds of vegetables growing in her garden and it’s one of her biggest hobbies

Small town glory

Montecito may have one of the biggest celebrities in the world – Oprah – living there, but it is actually a tiny town. It’s part of the city of Santa Barbara and has beautiful coastlines, tasty restaurants, and great boutiques.

Small town glory

The small town definitely has a charm and something special about it, which is probably what attracted Oprah to it in the first place. She is certainly not the only star living in the area, however. It seems to attract some pretty famous faces.

Ellen moves to town

This coastal, quaint little town recently welcomed a new resident. Ellen Degeneres announced last year that she, too, had decided to set up shop in Montecito. The comedic talk show host moved into a beautiful home in the area, and it wasn’t even the first time she’d lived there.

Ellen moves to town

In fact, she had previously owned a house and was in the process of selling it when she moved back there again. The question remains, however, just how close does she live to Oprah?

New neighbor

It turns out Ellen and Oprah are actually neighbors! The two literally live just next to each other – Oprah in all her beautiful acres of land, and Ellen in a gated community right nearby, next-door in fact.

New neighbor

The two are so close that if either one runs out of something, they could easily walk over and ask to borrow it. This is great considering Ellen and Oprah are actually long time friends and have remained pretty close over the years.

Other Montecito residents

While Ellen and Oprah are two of the most famous faces in the world, they are actually far from the only celebs who either own property in, currently live, or have lived in the lovely Montecito.

Other Montecito residents

Some names that make this list are Rob Lowe, Bella and Gigi Hadid, Jeff Bridges, Drew Barrymore, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It seems like this small town feel might be just what some big stars are looking for and many have found themselves settling in the area.

Mudslide madness

For those who were recently keeping up with current events, have heard about the disastrous fires that have been threatening most of the state of California over the last several months. This certainly isn’t the first time that natural disasters have struck the land and it sadly probably won’t be the last.

Mudslide madness

In January 2018, mudslides were the culprit of mass destruction throughout Southern California. While no one should have to deal with such events, many celebrities had damage to their beloved homes. The only good to come of us was they took to social media to raise awareness about what was going on and funds to try to help with repairs.

Queen of giving

Oprah may be a billionaire, but she certainly did not start off that way. She had to work her way up and deal with a lot of adversity before she got to where she was. Perhaps that’s why she is one of the most generous women.

Queen of giving

She is constantly giving some of what she has to others. For such an influential and caring woman, she definitely deserves to kick back and relax in one of her multi-million dollar mansions.
