Here we have a prisoner who was given the job of chopping wood. There are some prison facilities that make it a practice to give basic, menial jobs to the inmates.
It serves them well as a means of recreational activity, and it also helps out everyone else from a practical sense. Working diligently on the craft of chopping wood, this man is obviously being given a lot of time to think about what he’s done, and getting his energy out in the process.
