This is what Catherine is referring to when she tells strangers that she’s not mad at Katelyn. In addition to the fact that she obviously loves her deeply, she understands that she’s a child, one who’s still learning the basic facts of life through experience. People on the street told Catherine that they would be “livid” if it was their child, but Catherine sees things differently. As she told the public, her daughter only just started first grade.
