Coming into winter, it’s hard to think of much other than the rain and wind which will hit us soon. Aside from staying indoors and not leaving the house until winter is over, what can we do to protect ourselves from the horrible weather? With many types of umbrella out there, which is going to be the most suitable for you this year?
Classic umbrella
Your bog standard classic umbrella is your faithful and trusty friend in winter. If you’re perfectly happy with a manual opening umbrella with exciting patterns over it, then this is no doubt going to be the best umbrella for you, for many years to come. If you’re looking for something a bit different this year, then there are plenty of other umbrella styles which might fit the bill.
Bubble umbrella
Picture a bubble and an umbrella; put them together, and voila! A bubble umbrella has a large clear cover which pretty much covers your face as well as your head. The clear top allows you to see while you walk – kind of important – as well as protecting you from the rain and cold breeze perfectly. It’s ideal for anyone who has a strong opposition to any rain on their person, along with being perfect for kids.
Storm umbrella
Much like the name suggests, storm umbrellas are for use in more severe weather. This type of umbrella features two layers of cover, mounted on a much sturdier design. This umbrella is built to avoid it flipping inside out in high winds and to protect you from harsh rain which might otherwise penetrate through a standard umbrella. Needless to say, they are much heavier and bulkier than your classic umbrella, so may be a waste of space if you don’t need protection from harsh weather.
Foldable umbrella
If your main concern is the light rain that comes on seemingly out of nowhere, then a foldable umbrella might just be your best friend this winter. These fold into tiny packages to fit in your pocket or handbag. They are convenient, but not built for severe weather. Prolonged use can cause them to leak – which is not what you want from an umbrella – and wind causes them to flip inside out. If you want a little lifesaver in small showers, however, this is the ideal umbrella for you.
Golf umbrella
Golf umbrellas were made to keep golfers and their belongings dry, and so they are rather large. They are not easy to carry around and transport, unlike the foldable umbrella, because of their size, but they are sturdy, big, and reliable. If that’s what you’re looking for, then a golf umbrella won’t disappoint.
If you want to be fully protected from the elements but still have a clear view of what’s going on, a bubble umbrella will probably be your pick. If, however, you just want a simple – albeit fashionable – umbrella, then a classic or golf umbrella may be more your style. No matter what umbrella you go for, be sure to pick the right one, and it won’t let you down this winter.
