Sometimes you just need to take a day off – and that’s okay

Being a human can be pretty irritating sometimes. We didn’t sign up for this, and we’ve simply been lumped into a world where we have to work 40+ hours a week to pay the rent, before going home and scrambling together some food from the four items that aren’t out of date in the refrigerator. Work can often feel like the bane of your life sometimes, and then you come home and have to do even more work in the form of chores and adult responsibilities. This is why it’s okay to take a day off every once in a while.

You’ll be more productive in the long run

If you don’t remember the last time you had a day off, there’s a high chance that you’re very close to burning out. Your mental and physical capabilities just aren’t what they should be, and you might even find yourself making silly mistakes. While you may feel guilty for taking a day off, this is actually one of the best ways to stop these mistakes from happening, and the best way to improve your productivity. When your brain gets a break, it can refresh and revitalize yourself, which will ultimately help you in the long run.

You’ll avoid making yourself ill

Our bodies are used to fighting off germs and illnesses every year, but there are some illnesses that take their toll more than most. But have you ever noticed that you get ill more often than other people in your office? Stress suppresses your immune system, which makes you more susceptible to illness, and less likely to fight it off with ease. Taking a day off will actually help you avoid these germs and these illnesses, and leave you feeling fit and healthy. Avoid the stress to avoid the illness.

You can focus on yourself

When you consume your life with work and nothing else, you can often find that your self-worth and your personal life suffers. You get to work early, you leave late, and then you go straight to bed to live another day. If you’re doing this every single week, when are you doing something that you really love? When are you going out with your friends? When are you going to stop and think about where you’re headed in your life? If you don’t spend time on yourself, you are going to start resenting your job – and that’s the last thing you want.

It won’t be the end of your career

Many people avoid taking a day off because they believe that they will lose their job or get behind on their work, but we can promise that it won’t be the end of your career. Of course, if you are taking a day off every single week, your boss may become suspicious, but a day off every six months or so will not put you in harm’s way. Sometimes you need it.

If you’re feeling on the cusp of a burn-out, you should consider taking a day off. It’s okay to do so.
