Not too long ago, homes were equipped with certain features – some big, some small – that each served a very distinct and useful purpose. Many of these can still be spotted in older homes, and if you’ve seen any of these in your home you might’ve wondered about their purpose. Well, wonder no more.

These doors are split into two parts so the contraption can function either as a full size door, or it can open up halfway to act as a window. These doors were useful in the olden days as they let air and sunlight into the home while the bottom part would still block off the doorway so children and farm animals could not get in and out. These doors are still sometimes installed but they are not the necessity they once were.
