Dress codes have been at the center of controversy for the past few years, as they’ve increasingly come under fire for being regressive and overly strict. Many students, and their parents, have pointed out that there is a massive inequality in the way that female students are penalized as opposed to male students.
They also argue that it is fundamentally unfair to expect female students to be responsible for the behavior of male students, and that the codes schools enforce are simply another way of controlling the actions and expressions of girls and women.
