Some believe that Helen Mirren was born to play Queen Elizabeth thanks to the likeness she has for the long-ruling monarch. The RED, Hitchcock, and Gosford Park actress said playing Elizabeth came pretty naturally to her. Mirren shares a similar mouth to the Queen, one that’s slightly downturned at the corners, so she said it was easy to become Elizabeth once she had the wig on.
Peter Morgan, the writer of the screenplay, said that Mirren was so convincing in the role that crew members actually began to address her formally and stand up straight. To keep her in the mind frame of Elizabeth, Mirren kept her trailer filled with pictures of the Queen.
