The house became seriously run down as a result of the Grand Duchess’ stay. She had no money to maintain the property, and as she was living there, it was her responsibility. The King paid for refurbishments, but since World War II, the home hadn’t been used regularly.
People believe some servants may have lived there, and later, members of staff to the Royal Family, but no one of note and mostly it’s remained a mystery. Harry and Meghan have been heard calling it their “very special place.”
