Though I Will Always Love You is best known performed by the late Whitney Houston, she did not write the song, nor was she the first to sing it. Long before 1992’s The Bodyguard, Dolly Parton actual wrote this song.
While it isn’t a traditional breakup song, it was inspired by her breakup with her longtime singing partner and mentor Porter Wagoner. She had decided to separate from him professionally and felt the best way to share her feelings about it was through a song.
