Although this kind of body shaming has been around for years, it’s gotten worse since social media became popular. Sites like Instagram are made specifically for people to show themselves off, meaning it provides people with ammo to spread their hate speech.
The anonymity of the internet also doesn’t help things, allowing trolls to make vicious comments without ever having to face any backlash. Most of the things people post online are stuff they’d never dare say to someone’s face, yet they feel perfectly safe doing it over the internet.
