Gene started to wear glasses and thought that he just needed a little help with his short-sighted vision. Nothing seemed to help. After only a few months, Gene was sent to see an eye care specialist to see if they could get to the bottom of the problem.
It turned out that Gene had been living with Stargardt disease. This is a degenerative condition in the eye that eventually leads to severe vision loss in most cases. Gene had already lost the majority of his eyesight.
