There are actually some rules when it comes to weddings and etiquette that people need to follow. The groom’s mom had gone one step, or ten steps, further than simply wearing a white dress to a wedding, which is extraordinarily rude if you’re not the bride, or have not been given permission.
It seems unlikely that his mom hadn’t actually heard about the rule where you don’t try to upstage the bride or copy her, so it was clear that she was trying to make a statement with her outfit.
