Sturgis had previously been working on submarines before changing careers to a lawyer. This commander has a history with his former classmate, Harm, and the two continue their friendship on the show by playing basketball as well as working on cars together.
On the show, Sturgis is a firm believer of following the rules which often leads to him being mocked by Harm. While Scott had made several TV appearances before the show, his 76 episodes of JAG were his biggest claim to fame at the time.
