In 2014, Max Baer discovered a restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa, bearing the name ‘Jethro’s BBQ’. Baer also found out that CBS had discovered this in 2008, but entered into a settlement with the restaurant without telling him.
In response, Baer took CBS to court, alleging that they had allowed this establishment to use the name he had licensed from them, without his knowledge or permission. The suit was mostly dismissed in 2017, save for a claim from Baer that he should have sole rights to licensing of Jethro’s name.
