Long before taking on the role of Jed Clampett, Buddy Ebsen had the chance to be in another landmark piece of media. Ebsen was the original actor for the role of the Scarecrow in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, before taking on the role of the Tin Man at the request of actor Ray Bulger, who wanted to play the Scarecrow.
Ebsen agreed, but was prevented from taking on the role after suffering an allergic reaction to the aluminum paint being used to make him up as the Tin Man.
