Any long-running TV show is liable to generate a few secrets and urban legends about what things are like behind the scenes, and ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’ was no exception. One of the stranger rumors was that Donna Douglas was actually older than Irene Ryan – and that Ryan simply wore a great deal of makeup to make her look old.

While amusing – especially to the cast – this rumor was patently untrue, with Ryan being born in 1902 and Douglas being born in 1932.
