Typecasting can be a real hindrance to an actor’s career, as Max Baer Jr. would discover after the show ended. Having played the dim, foolish Jethro, Baer found that he was only being offered parts of a similar nature, eventually leaving television altogether as a result.
Baer moved into cinema, making a foray into directing, producing, and writing. In 1974 he wrote and produced ‘Macon County Line’, which was the most successful movie by the dollar in history until the release of ‘The Blair Witch Project’ in 1999.
