The late legendary film critic Roger Ebert, of Siskel & Ebert fame, one felt being in Parton’s presence was like being “mesmerized by a benevolent power.” Adding a postscript to his review of her 1980 classic Nine to Five, Ebert recounted interviewing her one-on-one in a hotel room.
He found himself being “enveloped by her presence,” until he finally left the room in a “cloud of good feeling.” The following day, he admitted to his friend and collaborator Gene Siskel that it almost felt like she had healing powers.
