Some adults have a philosophy that children should be shielded from difficult things in life, as it could be too much for them to handle. Fred Rogers believed the opposite, and he didn’t believe in talking down to children. To him, it was important children learn how to deal with challenges, which is why his show include episodes tackling tough subjects. He had episodes on divorce, death of a loved one, and even dealing with the assassination of JFK. Many credit him for helping to open important conversations with kids.
