In 1980 a young boy in a wheelchair, named Jeff Erlanger, had a dream to meet Mister Rogers before undergoing dangerous spinal fusion surgery. Rogers didn’t hesitate, and invited him for an episode to help teach kids about disabilities. Not only did they talk about disabilities, but they sang a beautiful song with the words, “It’s you I like,” in a moment that became an iconic scene of the show. The two maintained a relationship over the years, and in 1999 Jeff surprised Rogers by showing up at his award ceremony.
