Fred Rogers wasn’t the type of person who seemed like he would be a huge celebrity, but that’s what he ultimately became. Wherever he went children would recognize him and want to talk to him, and he always took the time to stop and listen to them. Adults who grew up with him thought of him fondly as well. One time he decided to ride the subway, thinking he would just quietly sit on the train. But when people in the car saw him they all started singing, “Won’t you be my neighbor?”
