Not only did Diana supposedly have a fling with her protection officer, but there were also ramblings about her being intimate with her friend, James Gilbey. This emerged after recordings of their phone conversations were leaked by the press.
In the tapes, the pair refer to each other by affectionate names, with Gilbey calling Diana “Squidgy” several dozen times. The recordings caused a huge scandal, and not just because of what they contained. They got the press into a lot of hot water over how the conversations had been recorded.
