The thing about high school prom is that not everyone is exclusively dating. The whole point is that it gives youngsters the opportunity to ask each other out unexpectedly.
For that reason, sometimes pairings can occur that not everyone is happy with. It’s almost like musical chairs, where two guys can covet the same woman, and they both can’t have her. In this picture, it seems like the guy on the left finds his friend’s date attractive, and wishes he could be with her instead.
