Sean Penn didn’t need to get into character for his role on the show as he made his appearance playing himself. The actor is part of a ‘men’s club’ along with various other actors, and Charlie Harper, where they gather to drink and chat. The group is discovered by Alan when he walks into one of the get-togethers, but Alan is desperate to join them. They begrudgingly let Alan participate, but he manages to annoy all the other members, so they prank him by taping him to a streetlamp.
