Berta amuses herself by commenting on the faulty lifestyles of all the Harpers, but deep down she and Charlie are best friends – even though neither would ever admit the truth. While Berta has a close relationship with Charlie, she struggles to grow close to Alan Harper and his son, Jake, until Charlie’s death brings them together.
