Courtney grew up in San Francisco, but her parents divorced when she was just 7 years old, so the future actress moved between their two homes for the majority of her childhood. Neither of her parents had any history in acting, but while Courtney was at high school, she discovered her love of performing. Courtney performed with her local theater company while still in school, and landed her first movie role in Lucas alongside co-star Charlie Sheen shortly after graduating.
