Still a young man, Björnsson started lifting heavier and heavier weights in the gym, leading to his interest in competitive strongman tournaments.
Beginning his strongman career in 2008, it wasn’t long before he started winning, and in 2010 Björnsson won the Strongest Man in Iceland competition. He would follow his later success by winning Europe’s Strongest Man in 2014, and it is a competition he has won every year since. After coming third or second six times, Björnsson finally won the World’s Strongest Man in 2018.
