As you can probably tell by the name, the Isabella Gardner Stewart Museum was created and filled to the brim with artwork by none other than Isabella Gardner herself. Born in 1840, this New York native spent most of her privileged childhood in the exclusive area of Manhattan.
Her father imported Irish linen when she was younger, and he was able to work towards a wealthy and healthy life for himself and his family. In fact, this wealth allowed the Gardner family to move to Paris when Isabella was 18 years old.
