In fact, the Gardners loved art and culture so much they actually used these trips across the world as an excuse to start their very own art collection. After inheriting an impressive $1.75 million from her father, Isabella made it her mission to buy some of the best pieces in the business.
Her very first purchase came in the form of Johannes Vermeer’s “The Concert.” This piece meant a great deal to Isabella, but this was actually one of the 13 priceless pieces of artwork stolen during the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft.
