Of course, Isabella and her husband didn’t just focus on paintings. They had also collected tapestries, manuscripts, photographs, and so much more by the time 1896 came along. Before too long, they realized that they had run out of space in their home.
Their collection had grown so large that they just had nowhere to put their newest purchases. Alongside this, they also felt as though their impressive collection needed to be seen by the rest of the world. They dreamed of opening a museum together, but once again, the Gardner family was struck by tragedy.
