With the show ‘Bewitched’ being the number two show on the television during 1964, producer Sidney Sheldon jumped on the bandwagon to create his own version of a magical show. In 1965 Eden officially signed her contract to start work on the series ‘Dream of Jeannie’ to be aired on NBC.
She didn’t have to fight for the role as Sheldon approached Eden directly. Plenty of pageant queens and brunette stars had tried out for the role, but Sheldon had his sights set on Eden.

The show would follow the 2,000-year-old genie named Jeannie (helpful!) as she was discovered by her new master, astronaut Tony Nelson. Nelson was played by actor Larry Hagman, who would grow close to Eden.
The show had its debut on September 18, 1965, and was one of only two regular TV shows to be shown in black and white, but was updated to color by the second season as all primetime series had to be in the U.S. by this point.
