Kate and Harry aren’t the only ones to break royal tradition and Meghan’s mother, Doria, was welcomed to spend Christmas with the Royal Family. The Queen herself actually invited Doria to come along to the festivities as she knew how close she and Meghan are.
It would be difficult for Meghan to spend so much time away from Doria, who lives in the United States, so it was important to bring them together at Christmas. Traditionally at Christmas, the Royal Family only spend time with each other, so the Queen inviting Doria really broke tradition. Carole Middleton has never been invited to the Sandringham celebrations, but because Doria lives so far away, the Queen wanted Meghan to be happy.
