On November 30, 2015, Kylie’s company – which was then just known as Kylie Lip Kits – made its big debut. At the time, the line focused solely on the 17-year-old’s lip products which she offered in a slew of Kylie-chosen colors. The reality star took $250,000 from her own pockets to fund the first 15,000 lip kits.

After they were released online, the kits sold out entirely in less than one minute. Kylie’s mom-manager Kris then hired the e-commerce platform Shopify in order to outsource the sales. In February, 2016, the brand branched out to eye and face products therefore becoming Kylie Cosmetics. By the end of the year, the company had already reached a total revenue of $3.7 million.
