Blake has mentioned one of his main sources of support early on was Mae Boren Axton, a famous songwriter who co-wrote “Heartbreak Hotel” for Elvis Presley.
She was known as the Queen Mother of Nashville, but she was technically a fellow Oklahoman who first heard of Blake when he performed a concert in Ada to pay tribute to her. She gave him advice, introduced him to influential people in Nashville, and always let him know she believed in him.
