Because Perry didn’t have an active Instagram page, fans didn’t know he was in a serious relationship. He never opened about about Wendy, nor did he announce publicly when they got engaged. The couple was seen together at a public event for the first time in April 2017, at the GLAAD Media Awards.
They did walk the red carpet together, but outlets who took photos or published anything about them did not report the woman’s name. It seems like, probably for privacy reasons, Perry wanted to keep his relationship under wraps. Some celebs post cutesy couple selfies all the time, but perhaps Luke wanted to keep Wendy all to himself and chose to keep their romance out of the spotlight.
