Injuries like those Damien experienced are pretty severe, and in some cases can be lethal. Having a broken back or spinal fracture is when you break one or more of the bones in your back. Although this may seem like the worst injury, not all people have lasting effects after breaking their back.
The other breaks are serious. Combined, it could have meant that Damien might never have walked again, and for someone as active as he is, that would have been bad news.
