After appearing as a nominee at the Oscars several times already, in 2011 Tomei would turn host. She presented the Scientific and Technical Award at the ceremony in 2011 to Franz Kaus, Johannes Steurer, and Wolfgang Riedel for their development of a new filming technique.
The Scientific and Technical Award isn’t handed out each year like many others, so to receive one is incredibly high praise from your peers. Being asked to host was yet another appreciation by the film community for Tomei’s work over the years.
