While it might have felt as though things were moving quickly for Tomei, it wasn’t until two years later, in 1986, that she really got her big break. Tomei would land a part in the sitcom A Different World, playing Maggie Lauten for two seasons.
This kind of exposure allowed the world to see that not only was Tomei a great actress, but comedy was in her blood. It would be a comedic role that would land her the highest accolade any actor dreams of: an Academy Award.
