[post_page_title]Brooklyn beginnings[/post_page_title]
Tomei was born in Brooklyn, New York, as the daughter of an English teacher and a trial lawyer. As a teenager, she became passionate about Broadway shows.
Then, in high school, Tomei would perform in a production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. With a love of all things theater, Tomei was eager to learn more about the profession. In the summer of 1984, she managed to land her very first acting role – a one-line part in comedy The Flamingo Kid.
