In fact, Buckingham Palace’s statement seemed to contradict what Meghan and Harry had said in their own. Within the short statement – released just a few hours after the Duke and Duchess announced that they were stepping away from royal life – the palace noted that discussions between the family as a whole were “at an early stage.”
They noted that they understood the couples’ desire to distance themselves from their royal duties and “take a different approach,” but that “these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
