[post_page_title]A questionable choice[/post_page_title]
It’s hard to think of any Royal spouse that’s strayed further from expectations than Meghan Markle. As an American divorcee, she didn’t have much of a leg to stand on when Harry popped the question.
They’re lucky that times have changed enough for the monarchy to accept Meghan as part of the family, although her presence was still met with some opposition. Questions about whether or not the actress was a suitable choice for Harry were rife, but thankfully she had one very influential figure fighting her corner.

If there’s anyone you want supporting you when you’re trying to marry into the Royal Family, it’s the Queen. There was no-one that Meghan needed to impress more, especially as she required the monarch’s approval to become Harry’s wife.
Fortunately, her fiancé’s grandmother seemed to take a shine to her, going so far as to invite her to Christmas before she’d even gotten married. That’s an honor Kate never had before she tied the knot with William, and she’s always been more of a natural with the Royal stuff.
