[post_page_title]Don’t start sounding like the Queen[/post_page_title]
Jane Setter, a phonetics professor from the University of Reading, delved deeper into what might be causing Meghan to change her accent. It was a process called accommodation, she claimed, and everyone does it. Accommodation means adapting your speech – whether consciously or not – to the people you’re addressing.
Meghan has shifted roles, from an actress with little public interaction to a duchess who interacts with the public all the time. The window of opportunity for her to make a good impression is narrow, and changing her accent helps nail the image she wants to project. “But it would be weird to take this too far,” she added. If she started talking like the Queen, no one would buy it.
