When Kensington Palace first announced the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it’s safe to say that she caused a stir in the UK. That’s because their marriage would make history, as Meghan would become the very first American to become an official member of the Royal Family.
Although Queen Elizabeth’s uncle, King Edward VII, fell in love with an American woman, he was not allowed to marry the love of his life. Because of this, he abdicated from the throne. Thankfully, the tides had changed by the time Meghan came around.
