This one is pretty self-explanatory. Before modern sewage systems, people had to relieve themselves somewhere, somehow! When duty called, outhouses allowed people privacy to do their business and made clean-up a whole lot easier. Believe it or not, outhouses are still used today, especially in rural areas where sewage systems are inaccessible. The bathrooms we’re all used to are more sanitary and less smelly, but outhouses are more eco-friendly, as far less water goes to waste.
