While the Sam Ratulangi made headlines the world over, it’s far from the most famous ghost ship.
That honor belongs squarely to the Flying Dutchman, a legendary cursed ship said to be unable to dock anywhere, leaving its sailors to sail the seas forever. The legend has been around since at least 1790, and persists with modern sightings to this day. The most common explanation for the Dutchman’s sightings are that the ship is merely a mirage, caused by warm air colliding with cold air to create a distorted image.
